Take Time Out and Paws for a Cuppa at the Hope Rescue Dog Friendly Cafe

Whilst we seem to welcome pups in pubs in this Country, we don’t yet seem to have readily adopted the French approach and allow them into cafes as well.  That’s why it is so refreshing that the dog charity Hope Rescue has opened a dog friendly café in its Pontypridd store.

The store itself does not feel like a charity shop, it is spaciously laid out and the clothes are all grouped and displayed in their sizes and with similar styles.  There are also doggy items for sale including bowls, doggy-wear, toys and blankets.

The café which is based at the back of the store has a few tables and a counter area with bar stools.  It is tastefully furnished with contrasting purple and grey chairs and fun doggy paw-print wall paper.  The staff were very friendly and gave my little one lots of attention.

I had a filter coffee and the little one had a chocolate brownie which had the right amount of gooeyness and crunch to it.  There were also welshcakes, lemon sponge and Victoria sponge on offer, which all looked lovely and were very tempting, but with the beach looming in a couple of weeks I managed to resist them.

For your four legged friend they even sell dogs ice-cream!

While we were there it was nice to see other people coming into the store to browse and also using the café area with their dogs.

There is also a station point where you can find out more about the charity and about dogs that are looking for new owners.

The location of the store is also handy as you can have a walk in the lovely Ynysangharad Park afterwards which is about 10 minutes walk away.

Hope Rescue is a registered Welsh charity set up in 2005 which helps stray dogs and dogs from owners who can no longer care for them.  Earlier this year they set up their own rescue centre in Llanharan which has space for 40 rescue dogs.

They also do a lot of work in trying to promote and introduce legislation which supports responsible dog ownership.  Being a dog lover and owner myself I think it is such a lovely charity.

So next time you’re in Pontypridd with your pooch, why not pop in for a cuppa and support a great cause at the same time.

I’d love to see more dog cafes. I saw loads in Tokyo so the UK needs to catch up. Japan even has dog friendly shopping centres. It’s amazing. I’d love to take my little chi’s out for a cream tea.

I didn’t realise that Japan was dog friendly, I would love to go there. I agree, we so need to catch up with more dog friendly cafes 🙂

Lovely review! We definitely need more genuinely dog-friendly cafes and restaurants in the UK, I wish we were more like France! I have a bug bear with places that are dog-friendly outside but don’t do table service. If you go on your own with a dog, you can’t go in and order unless you leave the dog on its own outside, which I would never do. You also can’t use the toilet! The Hope Rescue cafe is lovely. 🙂

So true, I’m not sure why we are so different when we are also a nation of dog lovers too!
