Please tell me I’m not the only one who is completely disorganised when it comes to Christmas shopping! I don’t know about you, but I struggle to find gifts that are a bit different. So this year, to help us out, I have sourced a range of gifts all from local Welsh providers. Welsh businesses which have some some adorable gifts and will beat anything you will find in the shops. So here it is, our locally sourced Welsh Christmas gift guide.
Gift Ideas for Jewellery Lovers
Sharon McKinley produces gorgeous unique jewellery all hand made in the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales. She uses natural materials such as ethically sourced leather and semi-precious stones in her stunning designs. My favourite are the leather bracelets. You can see all of her jewellery over on her website and you can order online too.
LushChic Jewellery, Cardiff Bay
LushChic sells cute hand made sterling silver jewellery relating to the animals and nature of the designers childhood dreams. There are some beautiful clover earrings made with swarovski crystals, a winter’s collection with snowflakes and some Christmas designs too. Or why not treat a Disney fan to the Minnie Cookie Mouse ring?
Serene Silver, Cardiff
A range of stunning handcrafted silver and plated jewellery all ethically sourced and traded. There is something for everyone from rings to bracelets to earrings. Lots of reasonably priced items which would make perfect stocking fillers.
Gift Ideas for the kiddies
I bought my daughter one of these adorable Tutu’s last year in a dusty pink colour and she absolutely loved it. A year later and she still dresses up in it. You can also match it with a personalised glitter t-shirt for that extra sparkle.
Wonderbugs Clothing, New Quay
Wonderbugs clothing sells hand made clothing and accessories such as patch work quilts. As well as what they make and have in stock through their etsy store, they will also do custom made orders. Beautiful bright items of clothing for your little ones.
Handmade wooden personalised gifts for little ones. You can either order from their online shop or you will find them at the Swansea Christmas Market. Pick up pretty bookends, money boxes, photo frames and coat hooks which can all be personalised.
Gift Ideas for the Home
A selection of the most delicious smelling home made candles and diffusers. For Christmas there is a festive Cranberry and Apple, although my personal favourite is the Sandalwood and Mandarin. All of the candles are hand poured in their small studio in South Wales.
Glass by Design, Penarth
Designers Cathy and Angelina make beautiful pieces of fused glass and stained glass which they sell in their shop in Penarth. Their shop also has a collection of crafts from all over Wales too. If you are looking for something bespoke, then they will be able to create you something completely unique just for you. They also run classes at their shop where you can learn how to work with glass, from beginners to advanced classes.
Sloane Home produces luxury artisan handmade spirits, award winning hampers, home fragrances and body lotions. Their chocolate truffles were awarded the Great Taste award in 2018 and their hampers won Best for Luxury Gift Hampers UK in the 2018 Food and Drinks Awards. The Stag Mini Gin Sensations would make an ideal gift for any Gin lover.
If you are looking for a truly unique gift then have a look at the handmade sculptures of green men, moon gazing hares and mystical creatures. Made out of marble the sculptures stand up to frost and so would make a a fascinating feature for your garden which is completely hardy. Lots to chose from from Welsh dragons to Hares to the most popular Green Man named Gort. As well as the online shop, there is also a shop in Tintern.
Hand built white stoneware inspired by the Welsh culture and landscape. Beautiful stoneware all individually hand made ensuring that every piece is unique. Earlier this year we interviewed Kate Russell the designer and owner of Skratch Ceramics which you can read about about HERE.
Lots of lovely personalised items including Welsh slate. You can opt for cheese boards, coasters or plaques to display on your wall. I also love the personalised gift tags and tree decorations.
Gift Ideas for Foodies
A Welsh Hamper with delicious Welsh Fare
Why not make your own Welsh Hamper? Fill it with delicious treats such as Welsh Cake Fudge from Taffy’s Treat Fudge, delectable chocolate truffles from Nom Noms and freshly ground coffee from the Welsh Coffee Company.
For savoury treats, add Harissa Paste and herb oils from Drwytho, Lava bread Salami and charcuterie from Cwm Farm from and plenty of Welsh Cheeses from the Welsh Cheese Company. Then top off with some Welsh Wine from producers such as Montgomery Wines, Glyndwr Vineyard and White Castle.
Of course if you’d rather not have to make your own Hamper, you could source a tailored Hamper from local Deli’s such as the Elephant and Bun in Cowbridge, or Madame Fromage or Wallys in Cardiff or luxury hampers from Sloane Home.
A small family run business which specialises in freshly roasted single origin coffees from around the world. Treat any coffee lover to the coffee lovers gift set with some coffee and a cafetière or even better sign them up for a coffee subscription.
Aber Falls Whisky Distellery is one of only four in Wales, and is the first in North Wales. As well as whisky they also have a premium range of handcrafted gins and liqueurs. I’d be picking the orange marmalade gin as it sounds perfect for Christmas.
Gift Ideas for Budding Cooks
One Mile Bakery, Cardiff
One Mile Bakery is renowned in Cardiff for its delicious breads and now you can learn to make your own bread too with their introduction to baking course. Or for those that are already keen bakers, there are other courses running throughout the year such as their French Baking or Scandinavian Baking courses which look good to me.
Little Spoon, Cardiff
For children who love to make and bake, Little Spoon run cookery classes and weekend workshops. They provide a variety of classes to suit those from the age of 6 up to those ready to go off and fend for themselves at University.
Angela Gray’s Cookery School, Vale of Glamorgan
I attended the Easter Bake class at Angela Grays and it was fantastic. We had an evening of fun making hot cross buns and the most delicious Easter Cake. She also runs barbecue classes, skills builders workshops and Saturday morning kitchen events which would all make wonderful gifts for the foodies in your lives.
Gift Ideas for that something different
The One Knit Wonder is a woolly hat kit which includes chunky knitting needles and a knitting pattern to make a woolly hat. All profits are donated to the Wallich’s emergency accomodation and rough sleeping services which help people in Wales experiencing homelessness. You can purchase from John Lewis in Cardiff.
I recently had one of the best facials I’ve ever had at Orchard Facial Procedures. The Fire and Ice facial, which is apparently loved by A-List Celebrities made my skin feel super smooth. I am also now converted to the products too, the Is Clinical face wash which they sell is amazing. I recently interviewed Sarah from Orchard Facial Procedures which you can read all about HERE.
Most of my followers on instagram and Facebook will already know that I am a big fan of Gemma’s. By attending her course I have learnt so much from her in terms of improving my own photography. But, the best thing we did this year was to have a family photo shoot. As I’m usually the one holding the camera I am barely in the photos with my kids. So having a shoot with all of us this year has given me some photos that I will treasure forever.
Family photo shoots would make an ideal present for families or grandparents. You can but gift vouchers over on the site. Or why not book someone on the beginners photography course?
